Humanitarian Academy for Development (HAD)

Established in 2013 as the Leadership and Development arm of Islamic Relief Worldwide, the Humanitarian Academy for Development (HAD) is now a centre of excellence serving the Leadership, Research and Talent Development needs of the wider humanitarian sector.

We take humanitarian learning and experience direct from the field to the classroom for analysis and dissemination, and back to the field for immediate implementation.

To achieve our mission of building and improving capacity by offering credible perspectives on emergency relief and development, we follow three main functions:

• Learning & Development – offering services to humanitarians working with relief and development agencies.
• Research & Development – carrying out original in-house and collaborative research into humanitarian response and international development.
• Talent Development – attracting, training and retaining graduates and post-graduates from diverse academic backgrounds with a three-month programme of training and practical work.

We work in partnership with other NGOs, faith-based organisations, universities and higher educational institutions to gain a better understanding of the changes needed to eradicate extreme poverty and human suffering.
