Donate your Korban in Palestine (Gaza)

It is advisable to give as early as possible. At Islamic Relief, we strive to implement the Korban sacrifice over 3 days (10th to 12th Dhul Hijjah).
By selecting to give one Prophetic Korban, you will be carrying out two Korbanis in Egypt (for Palestinian refugees).

Is Islamic Relief delivering Korban in Gaza this year?

Islamic Relief is planning a qurbani distribution for Gaza in 2026.

Our staff are continually monitoring the situation on the ground and developing plans and contingency measures so that your support can reach Palestinians in desperate need.

What are some of the challenges of distributing korban in Gaza at present?

While the ceasefire, agreed in November, has improved the security situation in Gaza, Palestinians living there still suffer daily attacks and severe humanitarian deprivation.

The Israeli occupation tightly controls the flow of items – including food – into Gaza so trucks containing aid are often left waiting at the border for long periods or blocked from entering entirely. This is a concern for korban distributions as fresh meat could spoil.

On top of this, many families remain displaced, sometimes without access to cooking utensils, and the electricity supply throughout the Gaza Strip is intermittent.

All humanitarian agencies, including Islamic Relief, are seeing their efforts to support communities in Gaza curtailed by restrictions. This goes beyond just qurbani distributions. For the people of Gaza to get even close to the amount of aid they need, Israeli restrictions on goods entering Gaza must be lifted.

Why is the cost of qurbani for Gaza more expensive than other places? How do you decide the price?

The cost of qurbani in Gaza has historically been significantly higher than in other places we work due to the exceptional humanitarian and logistical challenges stemming from instability in the region.

The pricing is determined through detailed assessments conducted by our teams. In Gaza and elsewhere, prices are based on factors including:

  • local livestock market prices
  • animal type, size, and weight
  • availability of livestock
  • slaughtering and processing costs
  • transportation and logistics expenses
  • border and import/export requirements
  • storage and cold chain requirements
  • security and operational risks
  • distribution methodology (fresh meat, frozen meat, or canned meat)
  • compliance with Islamic guidelines and quality standards.

Our teams continuously monitor market conditions and operational realities to ensure that donor funds are utilised responsibly while maximising the benefit for vulnerable families.

What is the difference between korban and Prophetic korban?

Giving korban is a sacred act of worship encouraged by Allah (SWT). Every year during the Islamic month of Dhul Hijjah, Muslims around the world slaughter an animal to reflect the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son Ismail (AS) for the sake of God.

After the animal has been sacrificed, its meat is then distributed to those most in need. This is qurbani.

Prophetic korban is an additional, voluntary sacrifice made on behalf of Muslims who cannot afford to give qurbani.

The cost of 1 korban is S$395 and the cost of Prophetic korban is S$790.

How does the 2026 distribution in Gaza compare to recent years?

Since 2024, animals have been bought and slaughtered in nearby countries, then swiftly frozen to be transported to Gaza in refrigerated trucks.

Heartbreakingly, in 2025, it was not possible to distribute qurbani meat to families in Gaza as the Israeli occupation restricted what can be brought into the besieged enclave. Instead, the meat was provided to more than 412,500 Palestinian refugees elsewhere.

Prior to October 2023, Islamic Relief was able to perform our annual qurbani distributions as planned, with accommodations made as necessary to ensure the safety of our staff, partners and the communities we serve.

What will you do if the meat can’t get into Gaza?

Islamic Relief carefully plans all of our qurbani distributions, but the situation in Gaza presents a particular challenge.

In doing our utmost to ensure qurbani meat reaches those in need, and that our donors can fulfil their religious obligations, we are continually assessing the situation in Gaza, and developing contingency plans as needed.

These efforts reflect our unwavering commitment to supporting Palestinians in need in Gaza, even as the Israeli occupation continues to obstruct the flow of desperately needed humanitarian aid into the territory.

What else is Islamic Relief doing to help people in Gaza?

Islamic Relief has been supporting the people of the Occupied Palestinian Territory since 1997, and our staff and partners on the ground have continued to provide lifesaving support throughout the crisis in Gaza.

At present, our work in Gaza includes an education project providing lessons to more than 100 displaced students and Islamic Relief’s long-standing Orphan Sponsorship Programme, which rapidly expanded to meet needs since Israel’s bombardment of Gaza began. By close of 2025, more than 24,400 children were receiving a monthly stipend through the Orphan Sponsorship Programme to meet their most basic needs.
